Dade City, located in Pasco County, is minutes from Hernando County, Polk County and Hillsborough County and is also just about 30 minutes from USF. Orlando is even only about a 90 minute drive away. This sleepy town has recently begun to become more developed and features a wide range of housing options in a central location. Living in Dade City allows its residents to live in a community with a small town feel yet be close to many other cities, counties and attractions.
Housing
While there are many unique and historic buildings in Dade City that have been remodeled into living spaces, there are also many new townhouses and apartment complexes. As Dade City has continued to grow over the past 10 years there has also been a continuous addition of new single family homes in subdivisions containing both, moderately priced homes and extravagant homes. Properties can be very small or very large with lots of open space and trees.
Things To Do
There are many historical sites and museums in Dade City as well as five public golf courses, parks and a zoo and botanical gardens called Dade City’s Wild Things. Dade City is also just a short drive north of the Hillsborough River State Park which features several biking and hiking trails, nature trails, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, interpretive programs, and swimming.
There is a drive-in movie theater in Dade City called the Jo-Lan Drive In, which has been in business for 50 years. Just a few minutes south in Zephyrhills is the Zephyrhills Cinema 10.
Dining and Shopping
There are many quaint and unique shops in the downtown district as well as some upscale art galleries. Dade City is also in close proximity to two large shopping centers, Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel and The Grove at Wesley Chapel, both are fairly new pedestrian-friendly, outdoor village style shopping centers that have outdoor plazas, sidewalks and benches. At both you will find large big-name department stores, specialty shops, high end bars and restaurants. Restaurants in Dade City include Beef’O’Brady’s, Osceloa Tavern, Neon Cowboys Sports Bar, Kafe Kokopelli and Lunch On Limoges.
Traffic and Driving
Dade City is really quite convenient to may major highways and interstates including US Highway 301 which runs toward Ocala and south to Zephryhills and Brandon further south, US Highway 98, which runs south to Lakeland. Access to I-75 is just a short drive and can be used to access I-275 and I -4 not to far outside the city.
Schools
Public schools include San Antonio Elementary, Centennial Elementary, Rodney B. Cox, Elementary, Pasco Middle School, James Irvin Education Center, Moore Mickens Education Center and Pasco High. Private schools include Gospel Academy Christian and East Pasco Adventist Academy. Colleges and universities include St. Leo University and Pasco-Hernando Community College.
Business
Commerce is mainly generated by the agriculture, retail, hospitality, and health care industries. Dade City has a very visible Chamber of Commerce that puts on annual events and fundraisers and plays a big part in the growth and development of the city’s businesses and organizations.
